Sen. Booker's response was one of codifying her fear, and declaring that he will take the fight to the NRA.

If you want a society that can guarantee your safety, you will never have freedom. Government can not guarantee security. The American citizen is the first line, and the last line, of defense.

Tony Katz agrees: shooting the teachers is ridiculous. However, the commentary and ham-fisted argument of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez on school safety - that it is not necessary to train teachers and students for active shooter situations if we had, among other things, universal background checks and safe storage laws - is not just wrong, it's ugly and dangerous.

"Can't you (Rep. Ocasio-Cortez) stop just for a moment?" says Tony. "We're talking about the lives of children. Why is it that you're ok with children and teachers not being trained to deal with problematic, dangerous situations?"

Hogsett claimed that Merritt takes his "marching orders" from the NRA, and that gun rights is out of step with Marion County voters. Hogsetts NRA attack is ill-timed, as the NRA is holding it's annual meeting in Indianapolis in April. The event will bring an estimated $55 million to the city.

It's not lost on Tony that this comes just over a month after the murder of 11 Jews at a synagogue in Pittsburgh. And it's also not lost on Tony that far too many Jews, and people of faith, fail to recognize the importance of protecting themselves while they worship.

"You need to be prepared to live," says Tony. "Otherwise, you're just prepared to die. And that's no way to live."
